Callum Macleod
Callum was brought up in Alloa and educated at Dollar Academy and the University of St Andrews, from where he graduated with a rare honours degree in Music. He studied at Dundee College of Education and holds diplomas from, among others, Trinity College of Music and the London College of Music, with a special interest in Musicology and Music Theory.
Now retired, he taught Music in Fife for 35 years, with many of his pupils going on to study Music and become professional musicians. Callum is well known in Fife and beyond as an organist and examiner. He has also on occasion composed music for plays, most notably for the Byre Theatre in St Andrews.
He began his performing career in the brass band world and can now often be seen playing timpani and percussion in orchestras, as well as occasionally, double bass and tuba. He is one of the few carillonneurs in Scotland, frequently playing the 27 bell Carillon in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews.
